Tattle Diary Entry #16: What Is Harassment vs What Fannibals Call Harassment?

Alright so this has been happening since season one of the show, by the way, but it continues happening even now. I thought, maybe, there was a slight chance that in six years these people could learn the difference between harassment and reading opinions they don’t like on the internet but I was wrong. Maybe I had too much hope that these people were intelligent or had the ability to learn. In any case, let’s talk about what actual harassment is versus what Fannibals will tell you it is. To be fair, since everyone makes me explain this, it’s not only Fannibals who do this. This happens everywhere on the internet, usually it’s SJWs who think this way and since 90% of the Hannibal fandom are radical feminist SJWs I can’t say I’m surprised that this is how they are behaving.

Now, I’m not afraid of posting my opinion about anything at any time even if it’s unpopular and I know people are going to get irrationally upset. It is just a TV show after all so who cares what people think? Normally, it’s not a big deal. However, with the Fannibals you run the risk of being painted “homophobic” just for pointing out that Will and Hannibal’s relationship was abusive, which it was. You get called sexist for pointing out a female character behaved stupidly even when she did. You get called a “rape apologist” when you explain to them that consensual sex isn’t rape. Yeah, these are the kinds of people we are talking about. People who don’t use their brains because they are so super warped by their ideology that they have to find fault, hate, and bigotry in everyone that doesn’t 100% agree with them all the time. Even when it comes to TV shows.

The formula of this “problem” I guess I’d call it pretty much looks like this:

  1. I post an unpopular opinion.

  2. Someone comes and attacks me as a response, usually some kind of personal attack or insult or whatever.

  3. I reply to them and go about my normal day and usually don’t do more than that (unless they keep replying to me then I reply back, sometimes, other times I think it’s probably pointless and just don’t reply)

  4. Get accused of harassment for not only posting my opinion in the first place but also replying when people come attack me first. Which isn’t how this works.

First, we should probably look at the definition of the actual word harassment because that’s certainly a start so here it is:

Harassment Law and Legal Definition
Harassment is governed by state laws, which vary by state, but is generally defined as a course of conduct which annoys, threatens, intimidates, alarms, or puts a person in fear of their safety. Harassment is unwanted, unwelcomed and uninvited behavior that demeans, threatens or offends the victim and results in a hostile environment for the victim. Harassing behavior may include, but is not limited to, epithets, derogatory comments or slurs and lewd propositions, assault, impeding or blocking movement, offensive touching or any physical interference with normal work or movement, and visual insults, such as derogatory posters or cartoons.

The following is an example of a state law dealing with harassment:

”S 240.25 Harassment in the first degree.

A person is guilty of harassment in the first degree when he or she intentionally and repeatedly harasses another person by following such person in or about a public place or places or by engaging in a course of conduct or by repeatedly committing acts which places such person in reasonable fear of physical injury. This section shall not apply to activities regulated by the national labor relations act, as amended, the railway labor act, as amended, or the federal employment labor management act, as amended.

Now, if you look closely at what this says, it says, “A person is guilty of harassment in the first degree when he or she intentionally and repeatedly harasses another person by following such person in or about a public place or places by engaging in a course of conduct or by repeatedly committing acts which places such a person in reasonable fear or physical injury.” (Source)

Is posting an opinion online (which people can easily ignore, not read, or straight up block, anywhere near that description? No? Well, spank my ass and call me sally. Having an opinion on the internet isn’t harassment. At all. Nor is replying once or twice to people, who on purpose, engage you after you post that opinion. It’s not like I posted the opinion, then I went to random accounts to threaten people, then kept doing it over and over and over again to make them feel unsafe. No. The mere act of me having this opinion they don’t like has triggered them into coming to attack me and when I reply, no matter how I reply, they get more triggered into…well who knows what their problem is.

Want to know what actually is harassment?

Following celebrities around in groups to make them take pictures with you three years after a show you like was cancelled. Doxing people while indicating that the person you are doxing should be harmed. Sending death threats to people, repeatedly, over years because they had an opinion you didn’t like. Calling that person’s place of work to attempt to get them fired. Calling that person’s family to annoy them. Continuing this behavior for multiple years across multiple platforms whether or not the original person who posted the opinion replies to you or not. That’s harassment. Why do I bring this up? This isn’t anything I ever did, this is how the Fannibals have responded to me. The funny thing here is that they don’t consider any of this harassment when it’s literally the legal definition of harassment. Even if or when you point out this is what they’ve been doing to me for years they tell you I deserve it, which is akin to telling a woman she deserves to be assaulted for how she’s dressed. The real, actual, predators here are these people and they have somehow turned themselves into victims in their own minds because they don’t like an opinion someone had.

As I’ve said before, even though I haven’t always been nice to people or handled myself correctly with these morons, everything I’ve said and done to them has been in my own defense. Typically, what happens, is they do something first and I defend myself. That’s it. However, when they tell the story they were doing “nothing wrong” and I “attacked them for no reason”. Even one reply to them, just one, is “harassment”. Defending myself after they’ve sent me a death threat? Harassment. Providing evidence that they actually do these things to me to prove they are psychotic assholes? Harassment.

The situation with the Hannibal fandom is simply a pile of victims who lash out towards anyone who doesn’t agree with them to an insane level and when that person dares to defend themselves, they are the harasser when it’s entirely the other way around. These people have no actual concept of what harassment is, or they justify their harassment because they don’t like someone. As much as I would say the vast majority of these people haven’t harassed me (to the legal definition that is) there are a good group of them who have. A good group who has taken it above and beyond anything I’ve ever done to them, but yet, somehow in their own twisted minds they are still the victims and I’m the villain. Not even sure how this works, but considering they will also dismiss Hannibal’s psychotic behavior entirely just because he “eats the rude” I’m not sure how I can be surprised these people think it’s okay to act like psychopaths without realizing it. The Fannibals are a cult. Plain and simple. This is how they operate.
